【Introduction of the project】
MRT (Mass Rail Transit) is a rapid transit system in Singapore. The MRT construction commenced in 1983 and continues expanding the network across the island. The Thomson-East Coast Line is a sixth line of MRT system which was awarded in 39 packages for construction. Our Company has been involved in 3 packages.
We will introduce Contract T219 project, located in Orchard, which is a very busy central city district.
The Major Scope of Works included: -
1. Underground Station and Twin Bored Tunnels with an internal diameter of 5.8 metres,
2. Underground Platform- Linkway (UPL).
The completion of No.2, the UPL, is a remarkable achievement. It consists of underpinning and piperoof construction activities which require high engineering skill for the construction techniques due to environment of multiple commercial buildings and an existing MRT station that are within close proximity. The compliance of remaining within the allowable limit of ground movement for existing structures was an essential requirement while studies and planning were vital to achieve the successful completion within the challenging project schedule that was provided.
Multi-function drilling machine and horizontal grouting methods are implemented in the construction of UPL in order for us to overcome the difficulties of the tight schedule and controlling of ground deformation. A retractable pipejacking machine was used for installation of the piperoof underneath the existing road as boulders were detected during additional soil investigation works. The adjustment of the position of the piperoof avoiding the movement of the existing boulders in the ground was successful.
By taking all those measures, there was no significant impact on the condition of surrounding buildings and structures. We also have achieved 10 million accident-free manhours just before the completion of project. As the result of it, we have managed to obtain high appreciation from client.
