【Introduction of the project】

The company began operations in the region in 1974 and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Our association with Changi Airport started in 1978 with the construction of Terminal 1. Over the past 46 years, we have been involved in more than 20 projects of varying scales, including the major renovations of Terminals 1 and 2, the iconic control tower, and the construction of the new Terminal 4.
Changi Airport, located at the eastern end of Singapore, currently operates four terminals: Terminal 1 to Terminal 4. Terminal 2, originally completed in 1991, underwent its first major refurbishment in 2006. However, due to the aging interior finishes and baggage handling systems, it required a second major refurbishment.
The international bidding process for this project saw participation from seven companies, including Japanese, local, and foreign firms.  Our proven track record played a crucial role in securing the contract during the final bidding stage.
The refurbishment involved a comprehensive overhaul of the terminal. This included interior finishing of the entire space and the complete replacement of check-in counters. The exterior curtain wall facing the departure and arrival halls was renewed, while a new early storage building was constructed to accommodate 2,400 pieces of early baggage with an automated warehouse system. The project also included a significant expansion of automated check-in kiosks, bag drop machines, automated immigration lanes, and immigration gates, as well as the replacement of the baggage handling system. These upgrades increased Terminal 2’s annual passenger capacity by 5 million, or 20%, from 23 million to 28 million.
Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic during construction, the project was completed ahead of schedule after three and a half years of engineering and expansion works. This achievement was made possible through stringent Covid-19 control measures and proactive efforts to accelerate the construction timeline.
